More and more advisers are having to deal with their clients’ online activity including questions about cryptoassets and how they are taxed. Many taxpayers are under the impression that bitcoin and similar assets are exempt from taxation or perhaps only taxable in other states while many advisers are unaware of how to report transactions to HMRC. This 50 minute programme details exactly what advisers need to know about cryptoassets, what they are, how to tax them and how HMRC are dealing with them. Giles Mooney is joined by Dion Seymour, HMRC’s cryptoasset lead and author of their recent guidance documents and Helen Thornley, ATT’s technical officer who has been working with various interest groups over the last year on the taxation of cryptoassets.
